Muscle strength is important for a variety of functional activities, especially gross motor play and skill development. Children with decreased arm strength may have difficulty with fine motor activities like handwriting and using scissors to cut. Children with decreased core strength may assume uncomfortable postures and have balance and coordination issues. Children with muscle weakness may avoid motor activities that are too challenging, which can be limiting in play and social interaction.
